Not cooking on gas

India, the friendly neighbours that they are, didn't congratulate Nepal for signing their first democratic constitution, instead they closed the border and cut off  all fuel supplies into Nepal. So over the last few weeks the roads have been getting quieter and quieter, buses have been reduced to one or two running a day (if you're lucky) and restaurants have been running out of cooking gas.

Just what you need when you're trying to recover from a major earthquake, but the Nepali attitude is great. They just shrug their shoulders, smile, and get on as best they can. It's the same with the earthquake. Ask a Nepali if the country has been severely damaged by the earthquake: "it's been like this for the last 20 years..."

It's not all bad though. The roads are delightfully quiet and unpolluted and you get to ride on the top of the bus.
